A favourite adventure activity is discovering Poas Volcano´s natural beauty while walking on trails through the cloud forest. Most of Costa Rica’s national parks and reserves have natural, yet well-groomed trails for this purpose. It is important to pack a good pair of walking shoes, as well as binoculars to observe birds and animals. On the way to Poas Volcano national park the road will go through the Central Mountain Range, and then we will stop at Fredo´s Restaurant to enjoy a delicious typical breakfast.

Visiting Poas Volcano
Poás Volcano National Park: Rising 2,708 meters high, the Poas Volcano is one of Costa Rica’s largest and most active volcanoes, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The volcano’s close proximity to the Central Valley, just above Alajuela, and the fact that you can drive right up to the top add to the national park’s popularity. The summit features two craters – the main crater which is 1.5 km in diameter and 300 meters deep, making it the world's largest crater, and a second extinct crater filled with blue-green cold water that is named Botos Lake (Laguna Botos). Visitors’ services include a park ranger station, trails, several natural viewpoints, and a Visitors Centre offering restrooms, drinking water, a cafeteria, small museum, and large souvenir shop.

Visiting La Paz Waterfall Gardens & Wildlife Rescue Center
La Paz Waterfall (Peace Waterfall): The La Paz Waterfall is located between the communities of Vara Blanca and Cinchona on the road to Sarapiquí. The waterfall cascades into a pool immediately alongside the road from Alajuela that leads to the northern plains, and is a favourite spot for travellers to stop and take photographs. The waterfall is extraordinarily beautiful with two tiers and lush rainforest all around. Upstream is La Paz Waterfall Gardens an adventure park, where you can observe many different species of local wildlife: Jaguars, pumas, Ocelots, hummingbirds, tucans, monkeys, snakes plus walk trails past four more stunning waterfalls.
